Yes...talk about a great start to the Chinese New Year! Pagi tadi bangun awal, was preparing to go to my eldest uncle (on my mother's side) punya rumah nak family gathering - tengah dok bersiap dengar Carta ERA...listening out for Nikki's Pinta - ingat da terlepas sebab da nak masuk top ten...and guess what? She was no. 8!!! Melonjat kegembiraan sat! Five weeks into the charts, initially it was climbing, tapi aku ingat after minggu pertama at 19, kedua at 17, ketiga at 14, and finally the fourth week at 19 balik jatuh gila babas...I thought it would be out of the charts!!! And lo and behold! It flies up to 8!!!
It set the pace ler for a quite decent day. After all, masa aku kat Sabah at the ned of last week, got SMSes telling me about Nikki's nomination at Anugerah Planet Muzik coming soon in the Best New Female Vocal category. Tunggu lak Anugerah Industri Muzik and see how she fares there. So often people confuse quantity with quality....so there...I said it. Apapun - I support all new talents tak kisah ler popular ataupun tidak...as everyone deserves peluang untuk membuktikan diri. From Nikki to Idayu....from Mawi to Jac... Cuma sampai bab ni aku nak maki hamun sikit....pasal mereka yang kononnya yang gelarkan diri peminat. Tak...ni bukan posting padal fanatik....tapi cerita pasal ada ler beberapa people yang berangan sikit ler meka ni make a difference in the music industry. Orang-orang ni, yang tak berani mengaku siapa diri mereka ni, practise the so-called 'freedom' of sharing digital music online @ mp3, and condemn those who attempt to stop them mengatakan kita memacam. Konon we do it too...and a million and one justifications for their criminal actions. Konon tolong ler artis sangat dengan upload mp3 leh tolong popularkan...ni padahal aku tau sangat niat meka. Artis favourite meka lak tak share kan...takut lak kena hamun ngan fan club dia join ni selepas idola dia sendiri pun pernah kutuk piracy. CD ori pun tak janji ada kat rumah. Semua dia offer, yang dia download dari tempat lain. So anyway...camna dia teruskan perangai lahanat dia? By kononnya sharing music orang lain. I can tell you one thing...nomatter how you look at it. YOU'RE STEALING! Cakap apa saja...tapi anda tetap seorang pencuri. Konon halal ler and you have a right to do it. What right? Ko agama apa aa yang halalkan mencuri ni? Cakap lebih-lebih on the Internet...but you don't even dare identify yourself. So kalau orang camni takde common sense...what do we do? Senang je...the Recording Industry of Malaysia, atau RIM, badan kira in charge of the music industry da memulakan pemantauan sites and blogs yang kononnya wat pahala ni ngan berkongsi padahal are nothing but thieving b*****s! Dalam masa terdekat ni, tau ler ko...konon pakai third party for file sharing? The fact you have a link is enough to have action taken on you. So wait for it...I really hope our music fans grow up dan jangan ler layan perangai selfish people like this...who know NOTHING about the industry...and help destroy it by their stupidity! Downloading digital music files is not just petty theft....it's a full fledged criminal action. So prepare for the industry to fight back. Ok ler...getting worked up. Man...I'd love to see wajah orang-orang terlibat ni bila meka kena kang...masa tu...kita tengok ler berapa berani bila da kena.... So start saving duit tuk legal representation ko...cause yes, you will be tracked down.

Tu sahaja....
klubbkidd February 1, 2006 09:38 AM PST First of all...theft is theft. Whether it is pointless or not, it is some form of action, and deservedly, those who choose to steal SHOULD be prosecuted.
Now - when you talk about real music lovers, they MIGHT download to serve as a sampler as to what to listen.
But let's face it, Malaysians are for anything free, simply because they still view music as a luxury than an essential. Which is totally wrong. We're talking about intellectual property.
Now prices of CDs may be an issue, but firstly, many recording companies have taken the move to lower them. Maestro's releases of Akademi Fantasia average abut RM21.90 a CD which is fair. Nikki's Maharani retails for RM29.90 for a double CD package.
If people were to gripe about CD prices, let's face it. Those who bitch about having to pay for a CD, will do so regardless of what price is tagged on.
I didn't say people who download should be prosecuted, but those who indiscrimanately practise file sharing. The advent of blogs, and even other file sharing tools like rapidfire has increased the threat of piracy more than ever.
While in countries like the US produces volumes of millions in sales, ours run only in thousands, and the pirates do have an effect on the market.
Explain why Siti's albums averafed about 300,000 before but Prasasti Seni only did just over 30,000.
Shocked yet?
Most artistes, new acts...sell less than 10,000, and crossing that threshold is a miracle these days, unlike just more than 5 years ago, that would be a pittance.
SO KILL THOSE DAMN PIRATES!
Stop blaming it on price tags and lack of quality.
The industry is doing its part. How about the responsibility of the consumer.
Again...when you want to buy a car, do you hold the dealer at ransom saying you'll take it anyway unless he lowers it beyond a realistic figure?
Or for that...any goods you purchase.
Music is treated so badly...and yet for many of us...it is our life...
hond February 1, 2006 04:43 AM PST Encik Joe, GXFC.
Your post on mp3 is understandably on the marah gile side but I'd probably 100% agree if we're talking about piracy.
Music fans, i mean real music fans who buy cds or cassettes will definitely buy the cd/cas of the artists he/she likes if he can afford it. And pirate cd/cas doesn't exactly satiate a music fan who appreciates the work that goes into a producing an album. I want to read the 18 panels in the booklet, read about the production, read the thankyous. This is applicable to established artists who already have a fanbase. Ning and Siti shouldn't worry about not making any significant sale. But what about new artists that no one ever hear about? When CD costs RM42 and cassettes RM18, and you're not even sure if the artist, or the album delivers, that's when a RM8 cd helps. You risk nothing buying an RM8 cd of a new artist who could sound like William Hung.
Have the Malaysian Music Industry persons study all the papers written on MP3? And not just from the RIAA side? And going after the people who download mp3 is a definitely not a good publicity move. Didn't Metallica shifts peanuts after their lawyers subpoenaed their own fans?
I don't see prosecuting people, will even stop people from downloading. 1 down, 10000 to go. And it's not like there's no totally anonymous way around if you really want to download mp3. Then again, website is not the only way to share mp3. What's next? Snoop on everyone's email to see if they're exchanging mp3s? Ban cd writer? Monitor the IRC? Copy controlled cd as everyone knows is a pain in the ass if you only listen to music on pc. See the Sony rootkit issue.
And rather than make enemy with the people who's actually music consumer, why not lower the cd price for a period of years and see if cd sale increases. I know people who get their CDs from Indonesia becoz of the fact that you could get 3 cds for the price of 1 in KL. Cd bajakan in Jakarta is even cheaper but they buy original in Jakarta. Hmm..I wonder why? :rolleyes.
And cd sale don't exactly make an artist millions unless you sell millions, but I heard sold out performances in PH makes more money than shifting just 25,000 copies. With 8 radio stations catering to 22 millions & entertainment is freely available, isn't it obvious that Malaysian entertainment industry should look beyond chasing and blaming 13 years old downloading mp3s? I've read the KRU views on Mp3 and their educating consumers 'opinion', but really, would people who don't care that their speaker is mono or care for the quality of the mp3 as long as they have it on some form, even spend their RM42?
Music is beautiful, no matter what language it is in. It transcends the boundaries of race, religion, and even that of a geographical nature. Here's my list of songs from Indonesian pop and rock acts that are on my playlist, some of which are my all time favorites. Some old, some new and some just bloody timeless. Enjoy the sounds and listen beyond the music and the words - and instead tune into the emotions of each tune. No matter what genre they may be.
Say NO! to the hateful and malicious nature of some who choose to close our local music market for fear of competition simply because they are unable to compete, and unwilling to even try.
Support Malaysian music. Don't kill it by being ignorant. Music is ever evolving, and our local sound is slowing being rendered irrelevant. This is my protest against those who choose to be anti-Indonesian music, simply because SOME of our local talents and recording outfits are too lazy to innovate and create. This is the sound of Indonesia today. Are we up for the challenge to evolve and produce better music in healthy competition?
WHAT I'M ON
KLUBBKIDD
So...just what do you want to know about me?
I'm simple, and yet complicated.
It's as simple as that...but then again, perhaps not.
My life is kinda like my job, an oxymoron. Try this one out for size...'ethical journalist'. See, told you so.
Anyway, here's a brief (yeah right!) intro to my life.
I'm a proud Malaysian (and I mean literally!), of Chinese descent. I'm Christian (Roman Catholic!).
I'm kinda whacked. I believe in piercings, dyed hair, black nails, silver studs. leather and spiked accessories and oh... tattoos...body art is just that...art. Apart from anything else that will make me worth staring at.
Right now, I have a total of seven piercings (three on lobes - two left one right, left ear cartilage, nose, lower lip and tongue) with three taken out on brow (one ripped) as well as three tattoos with more to come.
Forget the tough exterior, cause I believe in hugging my parents, crying when I feel like it, require tender moments with my significant other, and I appreciate my friends. As Kim from America's Next Top Model said it best. "What's my secret? I may look tough on the outside, but really, I scream like a girl!"
Fictional?
I 32 as of last July 17, and it's past the mid life crisis come early for me as I struggled to deal with the coming of age thing. I am working as a freelance senior entertainment journalist, a job which I have been at ever since I decided to quit college, two subjects short of graduating. I was taking my Diploma In Sound and Audio Engineering. Until recently that is.
Now I do a lot of freelance overall talent consultancy which includes image and communication. I am also in the process of starting my own company klubbkidd Sdn Bhd, which is producing its first TV show from a format that I have created myself. The show will most likely be on air sometime end 2008.
I have donelive sound production for some concerts and shows and a little bit of studio work in hopes of becoming a sound engineer with what I've studies, when I turned back to my first love, writing.
Was doing general news, specialized awhile in politics, did a little features, crime, business and sports and dabbled in related journalism fields before finally settling into my current position, thankfully, entertainment, the perks of which is doing what I've always loved (writing and indulging in music) and also backstage passes to meet my favorite acts. It's eleven years now, and I'm still golding it there.
Looking back - whatever's gone on in my life - it's not too hard to be positive and look ahead, with more pleasant of the memories to make the journey a little easier.
And these very memories which I cherish so, are the reasons behind why I started blogging.
The friendships and variety of relationships I've been through, allow me to highlight the mistakes I've made and how not to repeat them, not to compromise my principles too much for love, and also a balance in sacrificing my ego, and how I must learn to be stronger in the face of adversity.
So I've never figured myself to be a real hoot.I pace on day by day, occasionally skipping, sometimes with just a little jaunty bounce. More often than not, I go smack! either on my rear end (which needs more meat) or flat on my face.Life treats me well, I suppose, so I shouldn't gripe. I am stll my own hero - that's positivity through self-affirmation for you.
